In The Presence Of Equine Companions

As if beautiful scenic views with sun, sand, rocks and buttercups weren't enough to soothe the mind and soul we had the company of these wonderful ponies. The sense of tranquility was further enhanced by the sight and sound of the ponies munching peacefully on the grass.

The Last Evening

Artist and friend Jan Yates, from Canada, makes the most of her last evening in Shetland. We met through a mutual love of art - Jan's being hands on with canvas and brush and mine being photography. The walk, in the company of Jan and my daughter, Victoria, was enriching, the ponies adorably friendly and the light positively glorious. This is the Shetland that visitors never want to leave and some ultimately return and settle. Jan will be returning next year for another visit as 'artist in residence'. She can't wait and neither can we.

Simple Autumn Leaf

I took this photo specially for a contest which was called 'Shoot Something Simple'. I placed it on a mirror to see what it would look like reflecting. The resulting image wasn't too bad, I thought.

Cornerstone Cafe

A fairly recent addition to the village of Scalloway is the lovely Cornerstone Cafe/Restaurant with amazing food and service. Beautiful fresh fish and other mouthwatering menu options. Bed and Breakfast accommodation upstairs too and excellent value for money. The cafe and accommodation is furnished to a very high standard which, to me, doesn't reflect the very reasonable staying cost. Due to it's popularity the B&B bookings usually have to be made well in advance.

Burland Croft Trail

Anyone coming to Shetland really needs to visit the Burland Croft Trail. especially if you have children. A small farm/croft where most of the animals and birds are Shetland bred and quite unique. Access to the farm is usually allowed from June through to September. They also have a Facebook Page with many photos from locals and visitors.

You may have to open up the last two photos to see them properly. The Scottish kilted scarecrow is worth seeing and maybe even uplifting. 😉
